Rules
The competition is strictly limited to OPF students, requiring participants to have enrolled in at least one six-week session at OPF. Every performance is done as a solo. The judges will consider mainly the following criteria:
A. Choice of the music: The competitors may choose their musical accompaniment; it could be a montage of pieces by various artists, or a single piece by one artist. The originality of the music and the harmony between the choreography and the music will be particularly appreciated. Music must be submitted in MP3 format on memory stick before the submission deadline date.
B. Presentation: There are two aspects to this criterion. The competitor's appearance must catch the eye of the public and of the judges, but without nudity (on penalty of disqualification). Again, harmony between the appearance of a competitor and the theme of the performance will be an asset. The second aspect is the visual contact of the competitor with the audience (the look, the facial expressions, the overall onstage presence); it must attract and hold the attention of the audience.
C. Performance: To allow the judges and the public to concentrate on the technical aspects, an indispensable element of a competition, competitors must avoid singing along with their musical accompaniment. The continuity of the dance movements must incorporate transitions in a totally fluid way, spins and tricks, as well as posing at the pole and dance parts. The elegance and the fluidity of each figure, as well as the grace of the choreography, will be deciding factors in the scoring. The program must include a choreographic combination. The artistic interpretation must be in harmony with the music and its rhythm. Flexibility, scope and movement precision must be front and centre in the transitions as well as in the tricks and the spins.
D. Winners: Winners will be placed as follows: Winner of Amateur division, Winner of Professional division, then runner-up winners Miss Trix and Miss Sexy.
E. Tricks or pole figures: The originality in the combination of tricks and poses on and around the pole, the variety of the tricks and their level of difficulty will be taken into account, in order to judge competitors levels of competence, as well as their proficiency, strength and flexibility.
F. Pole: Routines may be performed on an X-Pole Stage Pole or a regular X-Pole, which will be in static mode. The pole will have a diameter of 45 millimetres and a height of 10 feet.
G. Costumes: The costume can be simple, even modest, but there must be a costume because it is part and parcel of the presentation during the performance, and a competition requires more efforts in this regard than a simple training session. There may be transparencies in the costume, providing they do not reveal the chest, the buttocks or the pubic area. Nudity in these areas during the performance will entail an immediate disqualification of the competitor. For the same reason, string thongs and transparent brassieres are forbidden. Brassieres and higher types of bras are accepted, providing they cover sufficiently and are opaque. Slacks and leggings, boots and footwear that are higher than the ankle, as well as leather, leatherette or vinyl clothing (as well as rubber, latex, PVC, etc.) are forbidden because they give a grip advantage on the pole compared to other competitors. For the same reason, gloves and mitts are forbidden. The use of adhesive tape or special glue allowing the garment to stay in place during the whole show is allowed, even encouraged.
H. Footwear: Footwear may have a heel, with or without a platform. Dance and even sports shoes and socks are also permitted. Competitors may also perform barefoot. Only boots and footwear that go up above the ankle are forbidden because of the grip advantage they provide.
I. Details: Certain magnesium, powder and lotion based products that provide a better grip by reducing perspiration, in particular on the hands, are allowed. The following is an exhaustive list of these products: Dry Grip, Dry Hands, Mighty Grip, Tite Grip and iTac. No glue or resin is allowed as it harms the poles and requires harsh cleaners that are not suitable for regular use, especially given the time restrictions surrounding a competition of this nature. Non-compliance with this rule brings about an immediate disqualification of the incriminated competitor. Jewellery and rings are forbidden as they harm the pole. For security reasons, we encourage all competitors to leave their jewellery at home. Tables and chairs are also forbidden, in order to let the audience concentrate on the performance itself without being distracted by show-business style entertainment rather than competition.
J. Length of Performance:
The complete performance must be between three and four minutes. A shorter performance or a performance that exceeds the time will be penalized with point deductions.
K. You must be at least 18 years of age.
L. Registration Deadline:
If you wish to participate in this competition you must sign up and pay no later than November 30, 2011. There is a $20 entrance fee payable in cash at the time of registration.
